SQL server performance: SSD or HDD

When you design your hardware environment for SQL server, you have to choose which disk subsystem you should use solid state drives (SSD) or 15k rpm hard disk drives (HDD). The performance of SSD outperformes  HDD, but the initial cost for investing in SSD is higher. If you calulate the cost per IOPS (in/out operations per second) or cost per MBPS (mega bytes per second), you’ll notice that the cost for SSD is actually much lower. (see cost analysis from Nimbus data at http://www.nimbusdata.com/products/costanalysis.html ) Below you’ll find some of the companies specialized in SSD storage products: http://www.nimbusdata.com/ http://www.violin-memory.com/ http://www.ramsan.com/
